Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) Limited today announces its future vision toward environmentally-friendly vehicle leadership with “Mercedes-Benz electric Driving”. This ambitious vision mark its initiation with a marketing campaign reinforcing Mercedes-Benz’s supremacy in automotive innovations named “DEFINE TOMORROW” and a brand-new short film commercial called “Loopbreaker” which conveys three highlights of Mercedes-Benz’s premium electric Driving vehicles: Innovations, High Performance, and the electric Drive Technology.

 

 

Innovations – covering four engine modes for Mercedes-Benz’s electric Driving cars, namely Hybrid, E-Mode, E-Save, and Charge backed by an intelligent system automatically activated to balance workload of both engine and electric motor.

 

High Performance – highlighting five driving modes comprising Individual (I), Sport+ (S+), Sport (S), Comfort (C), and Economy (E) as all of them wisely use horsepower and torque from both engine and electric motor

 

electric Driving Technology – allowing drivers to use E-Mode for an emission-free driving experience as the power is generated from the  electrical motor or recovered energy when the brake pedal is hit, or even when the car is coasting without the use of the engine.”

This is the first Mercedes-Benz plug-in hybrid SUV model and it shines with our latest hybrid engine technology, advanced auto innovations, and a stylishly modern appearance.  Moreover, the co2 emission level of this plug-in hybrid SUV is magnificently low at only 83 g/km. The GLE 500 e 4MATIC is available in two fresh designs: Exclusive and AMG Dynamic.”

 

 

Exterior Design

The GLE 500 e 4MATIC catches the attention with a subtle yet modern design axiom, sharp bodylines, a wide radiator grille, and sloped roof lines toward the rear of the vehicle. Selected models for Thailand are the GLE 500 e 4MATIC Exclusive and the GLE 500 e 4MATIC AMG Dynamic. The GLE 500 e 4MATIC features a chromium grille with two horizontally stylized stripes and Mercedes Star at the center, a chromium front bumper with a large air intake, chromium window sills, a dual chromium pipe end, LED headlamps with LED Intelligent Light System, a daytime light set, turning lights at the anti-glare side view mirrors, an anti-glare rear view mirror, tail lamps with the third LED brake light, and sporty stainless scrub plates topped with rubberized texture. 

 

The GLE 500 e 4MATIC Exclusive comes with 20 inch alloy wheels coated in Himalayas Grey while the GLE 500 e 4MATIC AMG Dynamic ensures an agile look and feel with 20 inch AMG alloy wheels in Titanium Grey, AMG bodystyling kit on front and rear bumper. Other features include front disk brakes with ventilation grilles, the Mercedes Star on front calipers, as well as a preinstalled electric panoramic sliding glass sunroof.

 

 

Interior Design

The cabin of the GLE 500 e 4MATIC is superior in class and sportiness. Artico leather is used to cover the central console and door panels. A multifunction steering wheel with speed-based weight adjustor and force limiter is standard equipment as well as push-to-start system, a 2-zone THERMATIC temperature control, and Bluetooth. The GLE 500 e 4MATIC Exclusive use leather upholstery and the MB Audio 20 is the standard multimedia system while the GLE 500 e 4MATIC AMG Dynamic uses nappa upholstery and COMAND Online infotainment system mated with the Harman Kardon^® Logic 7^® sound system.

This model is available with the class-leading infotainment system, Apple CarPlay™. Electronically operated seat adjustor on the front with memory function is standard across the whole range. For extra loading space, rear seats can be folded down with a 1:3 or a 2:3 pattern. A three-color cabin ambient light system is also included to maximize riding pleasure.   

 

 

Innovations/ Technologies

Mercedes-Benz GLE 500 e 4MATIC allows manual selection of the Plug-In HYBRID system in four operating modes:

 

• HYBRID: All hybrid functions such as electric operating mode, boost and recuperation are available and applied according to the driving situation and route in the most fuel-efficient manner. Whenever battery power falls below 20%, the combustion engine will be used. In transmission mode S, the car is driven solely by the combustion engine.

 

• E-MODE: This mode is used for all-electric driving (only the electric motor is active), for example in inner-city areas. It allows driving speeds of up to 130 km/h and provides an all-electric range of completely emission-free driving for up to 30 kilometers (depending on level of battery charge and driving speed). There is a switch-on point of the combustion engine while in this mode, and if the driver accelerates beyond this point, the engine immediately steps in to replace the electric motor for driving.

 

• E-SAVE: The charge status of the high-voltage battery is maintained. Electric driving and the boost function are therefore only available to a limited extent to maintain reserved energy level in the battery. To ensure that urban areas are reached with a fully charged battery for E-MODE driving, the E-SAVE mode is recommended at the earlier stage of the journey.

 

• CHARGE: This allows the high-voltage battery to be recharged while driving using the combustion engine, for example in order to ensure a higher state of battery charge for later parts of the journey. The combustion engine remains on and electric operation is not possible. During braking and coasting, energy is recovered and stored in the battery. When fully charged, the operation automatically switches to E-SAVE mode

 

 

The GLE 500 e 4MATIC, moreover, comes with the advanced Dynamic Select which offers five modes to suit all driving needs namely Individual (all systems will be adjusted according to driver’s preferences), Comfort (for a calm and saloon-likefeel), Slippery (for wet roads or terrain), Sport and Sport+ (for pure excitement).

 

 

 

For pleasure and safety along the way, the new GLE 500 e 4MATIC includes a number of revamped comfort and safety systems titled “Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive”. This sophisticated system gathers pre-accident systems and post-accident systems under a single, synchronized system. Systems that are counted as a part of the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive are an all-wheel drive system with 4ETS Electronic Traction System, PRE-SAFE system, ESP - Electronic Stability Program, AIRMATIC air suspension system, Crosswind Assist, ADAPTIVE BRAKE with HOLD and Hill-Start Assist, Adaptive Brake Light, ABS- Anti-Lock Braking System, ASR- Acceleration Skid Control, ATTENTION ASSIST, cruise control with SPEEDTRONIC, PARKTRONIC, and Active Parking Assist.

 

 

The new Mercedes-Benz GLE 500 e 4MATIC is powered by a V-Type, six-cylinder   bi-turbo petrol engine with intercooler. Highest engine displacement is at 2,996 CC and generated maximum output is at 333 HP at 5,250-6,000 RPM plus maximum output from electric motor at 116 HP. Maximum torque is at 480 Nm at 1,600-4,000 RPM. It achieves 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5.3 seconds and has a top speed of 245 km/h. Transmission system used with this premium SUV is the 7G-TRONIC PLUS with DIRECT SELECT and a gearshift paddle on the steering wheel. The 8.7 kW Li-ion battery is water-cooled, weighs around 114 kg and is mounted in a sheet steel housing underneath the rear axle in order to maximize safety. This battery can be recharged in around four hours and one full charge provides an all-electric range of up to 30 kilometers at the maximum speed of 130 km/h.
